Remember the article on Taikiew.net earlier where we commented on the dropping ranking of Changi Airport?
The online presence of any corporate entity is important, and the online presence of an airport is no exception. For foreigners who want to visit any country or use any airport, they would often check out the website of the airport to find out more information about it. Thus, the design of the site is very important. Let us look at the website of the top 5 Airports (with the exception of Changi Airport, we will leave it to the last).
Clean, beautiful and elegant design, with a interactive flash and important information like flight arrivals/departures/news at the bottom. Very easy to navigate. Very well organised menu. Click here to visit.
This website looks slightly cluttered, but still well thought out. I particularly like the flash menu that is very responsive. Flight information can be filtered, allowing you to find only information you really need. Overall the site looks very professional.

The Zurich Airport is ranked one position below Changi Airport. The website looks rather plain, with no easy visual cues to help the user navigate. This is a rather lousy web site design, but it is still fully functional and looks ok. Click here to visit.
#5 Munich Airport

A rather well design website. All information and links that any visitor would require are displayed prominently on first page at the center. Site looks very professional and well-thought out. It is also grouped into sections, Passengers & Visitors, Partners & Business, and Enterprise. Each of group of target audience would be able to find things relevant to them easily and quickly. Click here to visit.
Now after looking at the websites of the top 5 airports (excluding Changi Airport), do you wonder how our very own Airport’s website look like?
Tada!
#3 Singapore Changi International Airport

The whole website looks like something that a bunch of monkey has created. This kind of design style is so 1990. Instead of providing useful information for visitors, the center of the first page is filled with advertisements. In order to access useful information (i.e flight information), user has to go through more than 3 clicks/pages, and often to end up at such a page:
God almighty.
This is the kind of impression that our Changi Airport gives to all foreigners who intend to visit Singapore. It also shows Singapore’s level of expertise in IT and design. Are Singaporean really IT savy? Yes, everyone can turn on that power button, but most Singaporeans don’t even know how to do many things on their computers, other than facebook and playing games. There is a very low level of IT-savy Singaporeans, and among them, very few are of professional level.
Update: It is interesting to note that after I post this, Changi Airport’s website went down for maintenance.
A nearlyTHREE DAYS downtime! What the fuck! How can any real world corporate website be down for so many days? This is an international level website! Imagine Google.com being unavailable for 3 days due to “server maintenance”. Anyone from all over the world who visit Changi Airport website these 2 days, will MOCK at us. Singapore’s IT competency is a complete joke.
A 3 days downtime. Wheeee…. I can only hope that the website is being revamped.
Changi Airport’s website is a piece of shit!
