Another email, this time sent by COOS (the church which was involved in this AWARE has surface recently. It was forwarded by one of the recipents (a COOS member) to Wayang Party. Pay special attention to the parts bolded, as it tells us the extend to which the sender tried to spread untruth among COOS members. This is indeed a shocking email and I really hope that these people will wake up their idea.
Not all COOS members share the same view as what was in the email below. A distinction should be made between COOS and a few black sheeps among its members.

To:For those of you who are not plugged in to what has been happening in Spore in the last 1 month (esp my overseas friends), please uphold us in prayer as we wage a spiritual and moral battle for the control of a secular organisation that has been used by the liberals and gays to fight for homosexual rights in Spore.

In the last few years, this organisation has deviated from its original noble ideals of fighting against discrimnation against women in education and workplace and instead been taking up arms to decriminalise the homosexual act, promoting homosexual ideas thru their `sex education? programs, sponsoring talks and the screening of a movie that promotes the homosexual lifestyle as `normal?.
(Taikiew: The official word is “neutral”, which has different meaning from “normal”. Also, AWARE adopts a neutral stand, having a neutral stand is not “promoting”.)At the association?s AGM about 3 weeks ago, a group of valiant women decided that `enough is enough? and they decided to vote in people whom they knew stood for pro-family values and godly principles.
(Taikiew: Those women were from COOS, instigated by a certain law professor.)However, this obviously has not gone down well with the `old guard? who accused the new EXCO of being anti-gay and using religion to advance their cause.
The old guard has powerful connections with the press (one of them was the former editor of Business Times) and I believe 3 of them are ex and present NMPs (nominated Members of Parliment).
The Straits Times in particular have `demonised? the new EXCO and have overtly been on the side of the old guard. We know that many of the senior editors of Straits Times are either gay or very liberal.
(Taikiew: Where are the facts? This is serious accusation!)For those of you still standing on the sideline and think this is just a cat fight between 2 camps of `power-hungry? women, let me tell you that this is the furthest from the truth.
(Taikiew: Oh it isn’t? Then why the need to seize control? Start your own organization and overshadow AWARE!)I know one of the new EXCO members personally (some of you do as well..) and I can say for a fact that none of these women wanted to have their privacy lost, their families subjected to death threats, receive hate mails and sms-es, be harassed and misquoted by the press and media?..if not for a burning conviction that they are standing for the truth and holding back the tide of wickedness from sweeping our nation.
(Taikiew: We the citizens of singapore… regardless of race, language or RELIGION.)These women want to bring the organisation back to its original ideals of fighting for the rights of all women. This has nothing to do with religion.

I am seriously very alarmed by the untruths and contradictory statements in the email, and how such an email should be allowed to broadcasted to all church members.
However, as seen from how this email was leaked in the first place, there are many COOS members who does not share similar views on the issue of AWARE.
Thus, I must once again stress that this issue is with a few black sheep members who happened to be in COOS, and we should continue to respect the church and its religion.
How this issue will sort itself out, I have no idea since both sides are equally convicted to their own course. However, what bugs me is how the new ex-co can continue to claim AWARE is for ALL women when their reason for the take over was over the issue of homosexuality, with strong hint that they do not condone those with such sexuality.
I think that the old ex-co’s neutral stand on homosexuality is only because they want to be able to extend their assistance and reach to all women in Singapore regardless of their race, language, religion or sexuality. The taking over of AWARE by members of a particular religion due to their inability to condone homosexuality would definitely make the organization non-secular.
Imagine this:
Taikiew: “Will AWARE continue to reach out to ALL women?”
New AWARE: “Yes”
Taikiew: “Are you still secular?”
New AWARE: “We are still secular.”
Taikiew: “Why do you want to take over AWARE”
New AWARE: “Because we do not want AWARE to fall into the hands of people promoting homosexuality.”
Taikiew: “Why say no to homosexuality?”
New AWARE: “We are secular, god dam it. Stop asking.”

I’m glad you said that we should not blame the whole church (COOS) or the religion. I’m a Christian and am ashamed at what’s going on simply because I know Jesus would never act like that, nor would He approve of what’s been happening. The leadership of COOS or the new AWARE Exco do not represent all Christians, that’s for sure.
And eventhough the leadership of COOS is supportive of Josie and gang, I’m so glad that there are thinking COOS members out there who don’t just follow their leaders blindly. There are many good things in COOS that I admire and respect, but I can’t reconcile how Jesus would treat homosexuals with how they are treating them. I don’t believe that the impression that COOS and many other Christians are giving to the public regarding their attitude towards homosexuals would be the same impression Jesus would give the public.
We cannot allow AWARE to preach such immoral values. All of us must petition and act until MOE stops what’s going on in school where such programmes are being taught without the parent’s consent & knowledge. What values will the youngsters and the future leaders of tommorrow believe in when they are being bombarded with warped ideas at such an early age, and worse without the knowledge of their parents! We had trusted & maintained our faith in our educationalist but can we still trust our schools and the so-called educationalist anymore??? We must acto to put our children out of harm’s way!
Eh come on, where is the bombardment? Normally these programmes are a short and one-time affairs. I think it is also better for teenagers to be educated with a neutral view, and then its up to them to form their own. Teenagers do not care what YOU think is right. They have the ability to make their own decision.
Fuck to overly conservative people who think they have got everything right and everyone must follow their yardstick for morality, which is derived from some books thousand of years out of date. Society has changed in many ways thought impossible, and holding on so strongly to such ancient values will only impede the growth and progress of the human race. Not to say we are progressing into a homosexual society, my implication is that we cannot hold so strongly to old values as it would not fit with an ever changing society.
HOWEVER, if AWARE is going all out to say to students, “Come’on lets be homos, it is fun and enlightening!” Then it is going to be a totally different story. This has failed to happen and somehow in the minds of many religious people this is how it appears to them.
